Yeah well, you weren't missing me that much anyway, but the truth is.. I was. Missing myself here, ha! . I have been extremely busy dealing with lots of different ways to stay afloat under the heavy crisis skies we are all suffering. After the farewell to the paper edition of Serie B - another story of hard survival and independence - and with the new shape of Serie B as a web-mag, lacking a deadline - one of the best things you have when writing for a publication: discipline - has caused me laziness, even to my blogs. There's also the debate: why writing when one doesn't read anymore? Because, I must confess I find it more and more hard to stay tuned with the countless webs, blogs, shops and news providers to everything that means good music in the Internet universe. And all that means, very often, rejection. On the other hand, buying books, good reading mags such as Wax Poetics, provide me with the perfect excuse to lay under the sun in my terrace, as far as possible from my computa screen...
So what then?
Well, while my city (Madrid) slowly dies with hardly any new clubs - ok, there's a couple of new names but.. very much avoidable - and its persistance with high tempo peak hour rusty electro house, I try to save my energy to the real good times. For example, Worldwide Festival.
If you are a regular reader of this blog you know about my excitement and true love dedicated to what I consider the best festival in the world. To begin with, one of the sharpest and hottest musical programs either for live music or djs, very much under the eclectic taste of Gilles Peterson: the almighty guru of this musical fiesta. But on top of all that a perfect blend of size, people in good vibes and perfect outdoor venues to party and enjoy the live experience. And another important thing: the chance to join the artists on stage, if you happen to be a rising star, or simply a "rising".
Under the name of "Talent Search" Worldwide festival calls, for its second year, for a talent competition for anyone in Europe who swims musically in the waters of (quoting) "Progressive Rock, Folk, Samba, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Latin, Afro Beat, Electronica, Techno, House, Electro, Hip Hop, Dub, Reggae, Drum & Bass, R&B, Breaks, Neo Soul, New Jazz, Dubstep and everything else in between the lines of quality music promoted by Gilles.". The call works by simply joinign the competition at the festival's website and campaigning for yourself widely so you get as many visitors/voters as possible at your page, myspace, facebook or similar... If you make it to the Top 20 talents list with the highest total of votes you will then enter an expert's panel consideration to put you as the final 2009 Worldwide Talent Search Winner, and more important, you will join the stage on the first night to promote yourself as the true magnificent creator you are (apart from other prizes in the more material side of things...).
So, I would reccomend you to shake your laziness (don't follow my example) and get active: you still have 30 days or so to enter the competition and let yourself be knoiwn among a bunch of connoisseurs, and join the party in Sete.
DO IT NOW!
