For those of us hungry for fresh and sharp sounds the news coming from Detroit are juicy. It has been some weeks now since I found out about a group of artists under the initials E.B. I'm referring to Exchange Bureau, a definite new name to keep in mind for anyone interested in deep funk, eclectic house and future soul. The collective and label under Exchange Bureau gathers some of the Detroit talents not connected to techno-only sounds. The origins of this digital label are the band itself (EB) where Joshua Adams and Paul Katcher, in tight collaboration with artists like El-Mahdi Obeid, Mike Leonard, Jared Sykes, Omar Taji, Michael Scamardella, Jason Alder and Mark Szymanski, have been shaking up a fusion of electronic and soul tastes to produce projects like their own album "Via Air Mail". Strong funk with microchips for warm hearts.
But if this wasn't enough Paul and Joshua decided to expand the family more with a new label, based on electronic releases (the sin of the times) but firmly believing in the global potential of individual projects coming from EB's band members, remixing other material (there's the tandem The British Knights) and looking to the future with a clear message: there's more than meets the ear in Detroit.
For all of us, geographically away from Detroit, it's a blessing to be able to receive such young spirited and diverse combo of jazz, soul, house, hip-hop and jazz. They have already involved the minds of Daz-I-Kue, John Arnold, or Paul Randolph for upcoming works due this year. So, click them nice and slow at
their site, and spend some time browsing the many for-stream songs available. And before you leave, for you download-junkies grab one (¿all?) six mixes and sessions at hand from Joshua Adams, Exchange Bureau, Snowman Jack, Ibex, and Dj Godfather.
Welcome to music global warming.
